About the exhibition "Gog Mgog"
With the participation of 60 artists
A meeting of poetry, creation, and hope
The Keren Or Caesarea artists' community is once again mobilizing this year with its annual charity exhibition to benefit war victims.
For this year's exhibition, 60 artists from the Keren Or Caesarea artists' community were invited to examine the concept of "Gog and Magog," to offer their own personal interpretation, and to express it through their unique artistic voice, exploring how Gog and Magog intersect with their contemporary reality.
The concept of "Gog and Magog" originates from the prophecy of Ezekiel, which foretells a coalition of enemies led by Gog, King of Magog, attacking Israel, who had settled in their land. However, thanks to a miraculous divine intervention, they suffer a crushing defeat. The purpose of all this is to demonstrate divine sovereignty in the world, to make the nations of the earth tremble before the God of Israel, and to restore Israel's faith in its God, so that spiritual salvation may be accomplished and world peace established.
The prophecy was written 2,600 years ago, and to this day, no historical event has occurred whose details correspond to those of the prophecy.
According to the academic and critical approach, Ezekiel's prophecy has not been fulfilled and will not be fulfilled literally—it is rather a theological and literary text that has likely been adapted in the past, and will be adapted in the future, to wars of decisive magnitude.
The kind of wars we like to call a "biblical" event. In other words, the biblical concept of "Gog and Magog" has long since transcended the boundaries of religious texts to become a cultural and mythological notion describing chaos and destruction: a moment of major upheaval where the old world order collapses to make way for something new.
The exhibition will open on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the Teo Art and Culture Center in Herzliya.
